Themes I have studied...

A main theme I have found in my texts I have studied this year is family. I feel that family and its importance has been strongly shown in the film’s Little Miss Sunshine and No.2.

In the first film Little Miss Sunshine, the importance of family has been shown when Dwayne had a melt down when he found out he couldn’t become a pilot. Olive went up to him and gave him a small hug which helped him move on. I feel this shows how important the bond between families are and how the little things they do can help in a big way. Another way of showing the importance of family is at the end of the film, when Olive was on stage dancing and everyone in the audience starts leaving because of how bad the performance was. But Olive’s family decide to get up on stage and join her to make her feel like she was a winner.  Because in their eyes, she was a winner and they were proud of her for trying her hardest. To me this is a huge way of showing the importance of family because it shows how much they love and care for each other. Also how they would stand by each other no matter what.

In the second film No.2, I feel the importance of family has been shown when Nana Maria decides she wants to cancel the party because nothing is going right, but instead of agreeing with her, the grandkids decide to go on with the party despite what Nana Maria said. In the end, Nana Maria loves what her grandkids had done and at the end of the night she is proud to name her successor. Another way family importance is shown is how everyone thought Tyson was the bad guy, because he never visited his family when in actual fact, he had been paying for Nana Maria’s house repairs since no one else would. I feel this is a great way of showing how important family is.

I think family is one of the main themes we have studied this year. By studying texts on family, it has showed me how important they are and how you should always respect them no matter what.

Review

Matarangi is small town just off the coast of the coromandel, around a 3 hour drive from auckland. It is mainly a holiday place for families but there are also some permanent residents that live there aswell.
Matarangi is a beautiful place to go in the summer, as it has a long sandy white beach. It has a little dairy, a cafe and a small shop for your everyday needs. Down the far end, there is a resturant and bar which is nice if you wanted to go out for a dinner celebration or just for a meal. Alot of men go down there to watch the rugby games and to have a few beers. Right next to the resturant is a golf course that many people use. Abit further down there is a wharf, where you can take your boat and go fishing for the day. Sometimes families will go there and just have a picnic and the kids will jump off the wharf or just play in the water.

You can go for a walk right down to the end of the beach and go through the hundred acre woods, (which is what my little cousins call it beacause there are so many old trees), and you come out at the bay. Which is just a large area of shallow clear blue water, which is lovely to swim in! If you have young children that dont like walking long distances, you can walk to the opposite side of the beach, where there are some rock pools that you can explore. There's usually starfish., crabs, hermit crabs, sometimes even jellyfish. A couple of times there have been some dead sharks washed up on the beach too. If your lucky enough, you might be able to see some dolphins early in the morning.

Creative Writing;

Once upon a time long ago on a deserted island, lived a chimpanzee named Rex. All his life he lived on the island of Tonkavich by himself. One summer day, he decided to go for a hike up the tallest mountain on the island. So he packed his backpack with some sunscreen, water a pack of cards and a big chocolate bar to give him energy.

Since he didn't have a chilly bin, he had melted chocolate which made him angry. So for the rest of the hike, he had melted chocolate all in his backpack and over everything. He got so frustrated that he threw his bag into the bushes. But once he threw it, he heard a loud rumbling noise. He got a little scared. Then all of a sudden a big fat scary purple and orange striped zebra came zooming out of the bush, charging towards Rex. When Rex saw the large zebra... He stopped and crawled into a ball and the zebra raped the poor chimpanzee.

After the rape the zebra ran off back into the jungle. All of a sudden Rex's stomach began to enlarge really fast. He had no idea what was happening! Maybe he had caught a disease, maybe he was sick? He didn't know. Hours pasted and he finally reached the top of the mountain. He took a few moments to admire the beautiful view. But then, he felt an excruciating pain in his stomach! He dropped to the ground, then "BAM" a small baby popped out of his butthole. Rex was super shocked! He picked up the small figure and relised it wasn't a normal chimp... It had purple, blue, green and orange polka dots all over him. He also had big flappy ears and a long curly tail.

When the baby chimp attacked Rex, he knew something was wrong. He had no choice but to kill it. But before he had a chance, the giant zebra came out of no where and stopped Rex from killing the baby. Rex made the desicion to keep the baby and with the zebra. Rex and the zebra held the little baby chimp in the air on top of the mountain like The lion king. Then they lived happily ever after.

THE END :)

Joseph Kony Writing Task(:

Joseph Kony was born in April 1961, in Odek which is a small village in Northern Uganda. His father Luigi Abol, was a teacher and also a lay preacher at the local Catholic Church. His mother Nora Anek Oting, who died on November 10th at age 86, was a farm worker. She stayed home and looked after the crops.  He was the youngest if the family and had 5 siblings.  Kony decided to leave Odek primary school and church at the age of 15, to join his older brother, Ginoni Akello in operating a traditional shrine and became a witch doctor.  Kony often turned to physical violence when confronted about his anger and other problems.

Joseph Kony first started the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) after his Cousin Alice Lakwena started an Army of men to try fight off the Government with sticks and stones.  Alice and her small army tried to cross the Nile, but unfortunately she was confronted by superior troops with weapons. So she fled to Kenya where she stayed at a refugee camp until she died in 2007.  The LRA, which was originally called 'The United Holly Salvation Army' (UHSA) is mostly made up of young children and teenagers. It is estimated that around 66,000 young children have been abducted from their homes and forced to join Kony's Army.  Girls forced to be sex slaves and young boys getting turned into child solders forced to kill other boys and their family to show their worthy of being in Kony's army. The Ugandan Military has attempted to kill or capture Joseph Kony, but has failed several times. Jason Russell, a film maker made a 27-minute documentary about Kony and the LRA, to try get his name out there and so people can see whats actually happening in the world.

Joseph Kony has been charged with 12 counts of crimes against humanity and 21 counts of war crimes. The LRA has been running for over 20-years. Directing attacks against civilians and the Government. The LRA has a reputation for committing crimes like murders, abductions, sexual enslavement, mutilation as well as mass burnings of houses and looting of camp settlements. Kony first started abducting young children in 1922 when he kidnapped and abducted a group of 44 girls from two boarding schools, Scared Heart School and St' Mary's Girls school somewhere near Gulu.
The US Government has sent out 100 US Adviser's to help the Ugandan Military try stop Joseph Kony and the LRA. Unfortunately he still hasn't been captured.

Love Poem

What is Love?

Love is...
Having someone to be with,
Someone you couldn't be without,
It's wanting to hold them every second of the day.

It's the happiness you feel,
When they kiss you softly on the cheek.
It's the way you talk about your future together.

It's the sadness in your heart,
When you know their not there.
It's the way they make you feel safe when you are scared.

It's the hope you have,
When nothing is going your way.
It's the dreams you dream about when your alone.

It's having someone to talk to,
When no one else is listening.
It's having someone to hold you when your feeling down.

It's being so in Love,
that nothing else in the world matters.
Love is when your life is complete with that one special person.

Icons Of Summer Poem.

Icons of Summer Poem;

Sitting in the sun,
watching the puffy white clouds pass by,
little kids playing in the surf.
boogie boards and beach balls,
jandels and sunblock,
The smell of the BBQ sizzling away,
friends and family all gathered,
playing volley on the sand,
a wonderful day to be at the beach.

If i was in Charge of school I would...

I would make school start at 10am and finsh at 4pm, because alot of people come to school late anyway because they sleep in or their doing chores or whatever... If they get to start school at 10am, they wouldnt have to wake up as early, they could sleep in abit. Then when they eventually get too school, they will be more energized because they had a better sleep.

I would also build a swimming pool somewhere. I think alot of students would join if there was a swimming team, and i think the public/community would use it aswell because they already use our other facilities. It will be a good oppurtunity for the school to get another sports team going.

I would also change the setting of the classrooms. I think being stuck in a  boring room for 100minutes is stupid, because people get restless and bored. I think it would be better if we had like a big room full of  beanbags, big balls, just fun interactive stuff. Also there should be an outdoor area where students can work. A peaceful place to go relax and do your work. I think alot of kids will benefit from these ideas because sitting in a small classroom full of other students can get very hot, stinky and veryvery boring!
